Harry Graham is a rising senior at New England Conservatory of Music studying Viola Performance with Nicholas Cords. He began his training with Susan Posner and with the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, where he served as Principal Violist and as part of their honors chamber ensembles, the Maud Powell String Quartet and Hanson String Quartet. He has been coached by members of many major ensembles and orchestras, notably the Chicago Symphony and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Harry served as principal violist in Fall, 2023 for the New England Conservatory Symphony Orchestra. Harry has performed in various masterclasses, most notably with Teng Li, Principal Violist for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He made his solo debut in May, 2019 as the winner of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra Philharmonia Young Artist Concerto Competition. In October, 2021, he won the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Concerto Competition, performing Paul Hindemith’s Der Schwanendreher. Additionally, Harry has performed in chamber music and orchestral settings at festivals around the country, most notably the Yellow Barn Music Festival in Putney, Vermont and the Aspen Music Festival in Aspen, Colorado. Harry has had the opportunity to work with conductors such as Leonard Slotkin and Robert Spano, as well as soloists such as Augustin Hadelich, Steven Isserlis, and Midori. He was the recipient of the 2021 EYSO Robert Hanson Award and as a freshman at New England Conservatory was honored with the Presidential Distinction Award. As both a soloist and chamber musician, Harry has also performed regularly at various events throughout Chicagoland and Boston.
